North Branch boys’ tennis had a fruitful day on April 22. A match against Columbia Heights resulted in a dominant performance in both the singles and doubles categories.
Viking Nick Lambrecht won a three-set match, 6-4, 5-7, 6-1, against Pao Vang at the number one singles position, and teammates (2) Matt Jarvis and (4) Jordan Karcher followed suit with two-set wins. In the number three slot, Carl Fisk lost in two sets to Columbia Heights’ Nick Munoz.
In doubles, the North Branch team of Aaron Good and Travis Helig beat a strong Columbia Heights team in two closely contested sets, 6-4, 6-3. The third position team of Brandon Sonnenfeld and Brandt Rasmussen also garnered a two-set win.
The team of Joel Cramblet and Tyler Cosgrove (2) lost their match but didn’t go down without a fight. They took the team of Brandon Erickson and Brandon Framing to a third set tie break, which they lost by only two points, 7-5. The finals in the match were 6-4, 1-6, 6-7.
Head tennis coach Chad Brusky called it an “exciting day,” and credited Lambrecht and Jarvis with showing “some real guts” overcoming struggles to get victories. Brusky also sees good things in his second doubles team, despite the loss. “I think that they have great potential and will be very competitive at the end of the year.”
