Parenting can be a challenge.
Parenting during good times can be a challenge. Parenting during times of financial stress; overwhelming.
During the first three months of 2008, calls to Children’s Home Society & Family Services’ Parent Support Services increased 200 percent from the same time last year. Fifty seven percent of callers cite financial issues as the reason for their crisis. Family struggles due to emotional exhaustion, family dissolution and family violence are also on the rise, for which economics may have had an impact. The stress on parents can manifest with verbal and physical abuse of their children. CHSFS can help parents deal with crisis before the breaking point.
Asking for help is a sign of strength.
Children’s Home Society & Family Services helps parents identify the underlying causes of family crisis and helps to create a safe environment for their children, offering strength-based support, financial education and budgeting and referrals to community services. Families are empowered and supported in building the skills they need to succeed in daily life, building self-sufficiency and preventing abuse and neglect. Since a crisis can happen at anytime, phone support is available 24/7.
In a survey of 350 clients, 97 percent report reduced stress and/or resolution of their crisis upon using the Parent Support Services. Children’s Home Society & Family Services’ Parent Support Services are available in Anoka, Chisago, Dakota, Isanti and Ramsey Counties. All services are voluntary and confidential, provided at no cost to the family. For more information call (651) 641-1300.
