The Mora Mustangs came into town and ran away with a 13-2 win over the Rush City Tigers softball team.
“Give credit to Mora. They are a good hitting team, and they played good defense. We needed to play better defense from the start and we had too many mental errors to keep us in the game. We also need to be more aggressive at the plate early in the count,” said coach Kim Erdman.
The game was close through the first two innings with Mora taking a 1-0 lead. Mora managed to pound out 11 of their 13 hits despite Tigers’ junior pitcher Jade Kristofferson retiring the side in the second and fourth innings.
Coach Erdman continued, “We just need to put this game behind us and start playing the softball we are capable of playing. Our next seven games are all conference games so we need to be playing our best ball, as we are sitting at 3-3 in the conference.”
The Tigers scored their first run in the third when senior Amy Carlson hit a double and moved to third on a nice sacrifice bunt by Kristofferson and then scored on a single by 7th grader, Abby Scherer.
The Tigers scored their only other run in the bottom of the sixth when junior Steph Shively singled, stole second and scored on two errant throws by the Mustangs.
