Tennis takes lumps, but learns PDF Print
By Patrick Tepoorten

The North Branch tennis team suffered consecutive losses on April 29 and May 1, to both St. Louis Park and Benilde St. Margaret’s.

The first, a match against sixth-ranked St. Louis Park, saw North Branch singles players blanked, except for third singles player Joel Crambet, who won three games in the second set of a 6-0, 6-3 match against Nicky Levens.

The first doubles team of Aaron Good and Travis Helig also won three games in the second set of their match against David Nulsen and Michael Anderson, but also ultimately fell 6 - 0, 6 - 3.

Second and third team doubles were able only to pull out a game victory apiece in the 7 - 0 loss.

Coach Chad Brusky called the match a “really tough day,” but added that his players handled the result positively and as a learning experience.

That experience carried over to the May 1 match against Benilde, which also resulted in a 7 - 0 defeat for the Vikings.

Game wins were hard to come by for singles teams again, but Carl Fisk won two games per set at the third singles position, but fell 6 - 2, 6 - 2, to Keegan Swenson.

Brusky saw a lot of good things from Fisk. “Carl played a wonderful match against a tough opponent. He was able to keep his head up and play his game. He is staring to mature as a player and will have future success if he continues to develop,” he said.
