Medicare and Medical Assistance (sorry, no HMO’s ) has a benefit for diabetics that covers one pair of therapeutic shoes plus 3 pair of heat-moldable inserts per calendar year. If you got shoes in 2007 or earlier, you are now eligible for 2008 shoes. A Certified Pedorthist from Orthotics Geriatrics, Inc. will be here to explain this benefit and also the importance of proper footcare and the special features of diabetic footwear. There will be a selection of shoes certified for diabetics. You can pick the style of shoe you want. Your feet will be measured & examined and the proper paperwork will be filled out and sent to your doctor for approval. After approval, the shoes will be hand delivered and fitted to you.
