Girls play hard, yet come up short of wins PDF Print
By Steve Morris

North Branch is a team that is fighting to keep its head above water and last week they went under as they suffered conferences to Robbinsdale Cooper and Chisago Lakes.

Robbinsdale Cooper

Versus the Hawks, the girls lost by one point, 46-47.

Kristen Robatcek and Ashley Johnson were a two-girl wrecking crew. Together, they combined for 37 points, while the rest of team only had nine points.

“Johnson and Robatcek had solid games for us, but we need to have more people score,” head coach Dan Schindler said.

Schindler is quick to point the finger at a lack of offensive consistency.

The girls outscored the Hawks by seven points in the first half, but were unable to string the pieces together in the second stanza to lock in the win.

“Our inability to score consistently really hurt us in the second half,” he said.

On Jan. 18, the girls lost to the Chisago Lakes Wildcats 50-69.

Robatcek was able to get her points in, 21, but the rest of the team didn’t pick up the slack as the girl’s lost the conference game.

Free throws and poor shooting sunk the girls ship. From the charity strip, the girls shot just 4-12. From the floor, they shot 21-68, or 31 percent.

“The only thing we can really do is get in the gym and keep working on our shooting. Nobody is trying to miss the shots and we just need to turn that part of our game around to be successful on the scoreboard,” Schindler said.

Bench players Jessica Audette, Rikki Beaver, Miranda Charley, and Amanda Sylla provided much needed energy to keep the girls in the fight.

Up next, the girls have seven of their next 10 games at home and Schindler is hoping the home court advantage may be just the push they need to win some games.

With the losses, the girls have fallen to 1-10 in the North Suburban Conference and 4-12 overall.
