The Rush City Tigers, (2-10) lost a Great River Conference tousle to the Aitkin Gobblers 61-41 Jan. 15 on the road.
Brittany Scheffer led the team with 11 points while collecting four rebounds. Sophomore Andrea Becker came off the bench for the girls, and cleaned the glass with 8 rebounds.
Head coach Mark Henrich said it was a hard fought game.
“The girls played with a lot of heart and never gave up,” Albright said.
Aitkin (10-4) pounded the ball inside to their skilled post players and the Tiger’s couldn’t find a way to counter balance their attack.
“Aitkin was just too strong for us in the post,” Henrich said.
Brittany Scheffer 11, 4 rebounds, Amy Carlson 9, 3 assists, Chenoa Fields 5, 7 rebounds, Andrea Becker 8 rebounds.
Pine City
The girls followed the Aitkin game with another conference loss, this time to their neighbors to the north.
The Pine City Dragons (7-9) earned the upper hand in a 51-42 loss on Jan. 18.
“It was another hard fought game coming at the end of finals week,” Henrich said.
It was the girls second loss of the year to Pine City. In their first match up Nov. 30, the game was much closer as Rush City lost 48-42.
Brittany Scheffer controlled the game in many areas as she had 13 points, eight rebounds and five assist.
Fields was passing out assists like they were free candy on a parade route and ended the game with four assists.
Rush City managed to bookend the game in the second half, but failed to keep the momentum going as the Dragons hit some timely shots to extend their lead for good.
Henrich was ready to give credit where it was due.
“Pine City played a good game and hit shots when they needed to help seal the win for them,” he said.
The girls next home game is Jan. 29 against the Braham Bombers.
