Relay for Life is 10 years old in Chisago County |

Chisago County residents will gather at the Almelund Threshing Grounds on Friday, July 25 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Chisago County. Over the course of 10 years, the Relay For Life of Chisago County has raised funds to support the American Cancer Society’s work in cancer research, education, advocacy and patient services, while involving local participants.
“I feel honored to be a part of this uplifting event,” said Team Recruitment Coordinator, Sue Frame. “We have made a personal commitment both to create awareness about the progress against cancer and to help raise the funds necessary to continue the fight against the disease.” The number of Chisago County teams signed up and walking in the relay is updated regularly at www.events.cancer.org/rfl/ChisagoMn.
Chairman Jane Wachutka has a new committee member, Gretchen Richter, who attends Chisago Lakes Senior High School in Lindstrom. All ages are welcome. Call (651) 255-8113 if you would like to help. The next committee meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 5 at Trinity Lutheran Church in North Branch with the RFL planning committee meeting at 6:30 p.m. followed by a team captains meeting at 7:30 p.m.
Relay For Life of Chisago County Chairman Jane Wachutka said, “We could use people to volunteer for setup, signage, food, games, clean-up, and other details the night of the Relay, July 25. There is always a need for an extra hand to help out at the event. It takes a lot of teamwork to ensure that the Relay will run smoothly and be a positive experience for all.”
Nicole Battles, American Cancer Society representative, told the Chisago County RFL group about the ACS “Look Good Feel Better” program that helps those receiving treatment for cancer to deal with the physical changes that occur. Make-up companies donate products and the program also provides wigs, hats, and scarves. This program is available at the Wyoming Clinic.
Relay For Life of Chisago County is a life-changing experience that helps to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost and to fight back against a disease that takes too much. This unforgettable event raises awareness and funds to save lives, help those touched by cancer, and empower people to fight back against this disease.
