Clifford Edward Waldhoff passed away peacefully at Golden Living Center at Rush City on June 5, 2008 at the age of 95 years 2 months and 9 days.
Clifford was born May 27, 1913 at his parent’s home in Sunrise Township Chisago County. He was the third child born to Edward and Freda (Gillert) Waldhoff. The family resided and farmed in the Sunrise area. He attended country school near Sunrise through the eighth grade, then farmed with his parents before getting a farm of his own.
On July 3, 1936 he married Irene Roush. They were happily married for 67 years until her death in April of 2003. They farmed in the Harris area until retirement in 1978 and remained on the farm at the edge of Harris. Cliff stayed at their home until he was hospitalized for 11 days and then moved to Golden LivingCenter at Rush City in March of 2008.
Clifford and Irene had two sons, Jerry Waldhoff of Anderson, Ala., and Gordon Waldhoff (Karen Nelson) of Harris, Minn., one grandson, Dylan Waldhoff of Pine City, one great-grandson Elijah Waldhoff of Pine City.
Clifford enjoyed farming for his entire life. They had a dairy farm as well as raising many crops. Sometimes chickens and hogs were raised. He loved whistling and was very good at it. Some knew him as “whistler” because they heard him whistling above the sound of the tractor as he made his rounds in the field. Besides farming he enjoyed going to flea markets and the “sales barn.” He could tell many tales about those outings.
Clifford is survived by his sons, Jerry and Gordon, grandson Dylan and great-grandson Elijah, sister Susan McBane of Oregon, special niece Carol Ann Tromsness of Coon Rapids, other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Irene, sister Sylvia Tromsness and brother Ralph Waldhoff.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at First Lutheran Church of Harris with Rev. Richard Mork officiating. Music was provided by organist Carolyn Holmstrom and soloist Anita Ryberg. Casket bearers included Dylan Waldhoff, Jason Nelson, Jordan Nelson, Joshua Nelson, Patrick Sandstrom and Hector Peloquin with the interment in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Harris, Minn.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Funeral and Cremation Service of Rush City, MN.-Olson Chapel.
