r. allerton for folder.jpgRoberta Lou Allerton of Rush City, passed away on Jan. 7, 2010 at Grace Pointe Crossing in Cambridge, after a 15 year battle with failing health. She was 75 years old.

Roberta was born in Benton Harbor, Mich., on Nov. 15, 1934 to Richard and Ruby Wren. She was the youngest of three children. She had one brother and one sister. As a child, Roberta enjoyed many precious moments baking with her grandmother. There was a very special bond between grandmother and granddaughter.

In the early 1950s Roberta married Eugene C. Allerton. Their marriage was blessed with six wonderful children, five boys and one girl. Roberta worked hard and raised her children on the family farm just outside Union City, Mich., until 1979. With Roberta’s devoted love to the six children, they all made it through both the good and bad times.

In 1979, Roberta moved with her younger children to Rush City. Roberta resided in Rush City with her children until the present.

Roberta enjoyed working hard and helping her children and friends. She worked many years for Federal Mogel Plastics in Mendon, Mich. Roberta moved to Rush City because she was offered a job at Plastech Corporation. She loved her job there as a quality control Inspector. In her younger years, she was also a union president. Roberta retired in 1994 for health reasons.

After retirement Roberta enjoyed spending many wonderful hours with her children and grandchildren.

Roberta occupied her time making handcrafts. She loved sewing, reading, flower arranging, gardening and watching the news and crime shows. Roberta’s favorite times were spent baking cookies with the grandchildren. Roberta loved every holiday with her family. She was known for her yard decorations at each holiday. In her later years, she loved spending time with, and spoiling, her two great-grandsons. Roberta made sure that the bond she had with her own grandmother was passed on to her grandchildren and little great-grandsons. She was always there for her family and others that needed her.

Roberta will always be remembered as a die-hard Twins fan. She watched every game and knew all about her beloved Minnesota Twins. In her own words it was the Twins, “come hell or high water.”

Roberta is survived by a sister Ruth Romeo, and nephews and nieces in Michigan. Roberta is also survived by her five sons and their spouses, one daughter, 12 grandchildren, 2 great-grandsons and one daughter-in-law. Her children live in Minnesota, New Mexico and California.

Roberta will always be remembered for her sense of humor, political point of view and most of all for her love and devotion to her family. She will always have a special place in our hearts and memories. We are forever grateful, Mom. Thank you for your love and our memories.

We love you Mom and Grandma, Ken and Beth, Jim and Danna, Theresa, John and Denise, Richard and Marilyn, Eric and Teri, Becky, 12 grandchildren and two great-grandsons, Jace and Mason.

Family always gave mom so much joy and happiness. Mom we will remember you forever.
