Gary A. Peterson, of Columbia Heights, formerly of Rush City, died Saturday, Feb. 2 at the age of 63.
He was born Aug. 2, 1949, in Rush City, to Alden and Joyce Peterson. Gary graduated from Rush City High School in 1967 and then went on to school at Dunwoody Technical School for electrical construction.
During high school, he worked for his grandpa at the Peterson Food Market in Rush City. He also worked for Culligan Water. After graduating, he worked for Paul Carlson Plumbing and heating. He started his own business, Delta Electric, in 1973, after working for several contractors. In the late 70’s, he also drove school bus and worked for the Cambridge Fire Department. Gary started working at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts as an electrician in 1989 and was employed there for about 20 years. During this time, he also worked part time at the Target Center.
He enjoyed snowmobiling, karaoke, horseshoe tournaments and spending time at Goose Lake with friends and family.
Gary is survived by his daughters, Carrie (Brian) Moffet, of Braham; and Heather (Keith) Wright of Centennial, Colo.; brother, Arlen (Karen) Peterson, of Harris, grandchildren, William and Alayna Moffet; and Niece Abigail Peterson.
He is preceded in death by his wife Melanie Peterson, his parents Alden and Joyce Peterson and brother Wayne Peterson.
Reverend John Beck will officiate funeral services at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Rush City. A time of reivewal and visitation was on Tuesday, 4 to 8 p.m. at the Olson Funeral Chapel in Rush City and one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Interment will take place in the Hillside Memorium Cemetery in northeast Minneapolis.
